Poutine and sweater weather
Good evening from the Pacific Northwest!!!
We finished the first part of our journey, flying out of Dallas up to Seattle. One thing my family has learned over the past few years, is that air travel is SOOO much easier when you get someone to drive you to and from the airport. Anyone that’s had drive out of DFW airport knows how much of a pain in the ass it is. Dad found a guy a few years ago that, for a few bucks will drive you straight to your gate, and even pick you up when you get back. Worth. Every. Penny.
Getting thru DFW TSA security checks was surprisingly easy, must be lighter on the weekdays. Only waited about an hour and a half to board, folks got us their premium economy section, which is basically economy with 4 extra inches of leg room. Would rather have had a four inch wider seat. Got stuck in the middle seat for a four hour flight. Slept on and off and we got in to SeaTsc around 5:30 local time.
If I could change two things about all airports in the world:
1. Make them all the same design. Some airports I swear were designed by two year olds scribbling on a wall with a crayon. Whoever designed SeaTac decided “Let’s put the baggage claim in A WHOLE OTHER TERMINAL THAT YOU TAKE A TRAM TO. Say what you want about DFW, at least they
2. Make a law that airports can only have so many construction projects at one time. I’ve been in a good number of airports over the past decade from DFW, Love field, Las Vegas, Miami, San Juan, London, Budapest, Amsterdam, and now SeaTac. Every single one looked like it was half under construction and for some reason it’s always the baggage claim area. Finish the plans on your plate before you start digging shit up. Just saying. Flyers around the world will thank you.
But I digress.
I know my time in Seattle is limited to today tomorrow and a drive back to the airport, but first impressions of Seattle are certainly positive. Yes, there’s a crap ton of trees. Yes, it’s perpetually rainy. Coming from Lubbock where trees and rain are often sparse, I’m not complaining at all. It’s also a good 20-30 degrees cooler here than in Texas.
Tomorrows high in Lubbock: 88 degrees
Tomorrow’s high here in Seattle: 66 degrees with 75% chance of rain.
We’re staying the night at a Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza. Easily one of the nicest and definitely the tallest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Nicole and I are on the 15th floor, mom and dad…34th floor.
We were definitely hungry when we got checked in, not to mention the two hour time change; it’s 10pm here so it’s midnight. We grabbed some grub at the hotels restaurant called Elevation. Had a BBQ burger with bacon and beer battered onion rings. Tasty, sauce was spicy, O rings were crispy and held up.
But the star of the night, was the poutine. If anyone still doesn’t know what poutine is, I sometimes to refer to it as Canadian chili cheese fries; fries, WHITE cheese curds, and brown gravy. Don’t get it twisted. I love a good chili cheese fries and I’m sure there is far better poutine out there.
But it was GLORIOUS…
It’s getting close to 10:30 Seattle time and I feel myself losing the battle with my eyelids. Nicole lost her battle an hour ago, so I think I’ll close out this entry. Next post will be sometime tomorrow afternoon/night on board the Norwegian Joy.
Satch
PS- here’s a pic of the view from our hotel. You really feel inspired by our own little section of Interstate 5 lol
